Plastic Bags Still Tops to Spread Advertising
Message
We generally tend to think of the entertainment, fashion or arts industries
as the province for creative people to find their niche in the workforce.
However, marketing is another vocational area where ideas are constantly
required to keep advertising fresh and exciting, and to entice the consumer to
spend. There is no doubt that retailing is still doing it tough, with consumers
reluctant to splash out on discretionary items, keeping their funds for more
boring pursuits like paying the mortgage, the electricity bill, keeping the
fridge and pantry stocked and running the car. However, marketing people as we
have already established are clever and creative, and they may just have
something else in store.
Marketing is more than just advertising, and there is a lot of statistical
analysis that goes into identifying market trends and consumer behaviour before
any money is spent on advertising. Now that half of Australians own smart phones
and use them to search on-line before shopping, a lot of advertising revenue is
moving towards that arena. However, advertising on
plastic bags Brisbane is still
considered value for money, and the clever marketing people have thought of
another way to use them.
Every year, there are several key celebratory days that we are all familiar
with, and often are tied into a public holiday. Since the populace is already
geared up for whatever the celebration is e.g. Australia Day, they are already
psychologically primed to look at anything advertising this. What better way to
draw the eye of the shopper, than to splash something like “Dollars Off –
Australia Day Sale – One Day Only”, across a plastic bag. A shopper buys
something at the sale then walks out of the retail outlet, into a mall, shopping
centre or street where other curious consumers look at the bag and decide to
check out these one day bargains.
Alternatively, a retail outlet may use the advertising on the bags as a build
up for several weeks prior to an event. For a day like Valentine’s Day, for
example, an outlet that sold exotic women’s underwear, or a jeweller or florist,
could send customers out of the shops for a couple of weeks before the day with
specific advertising material that would create the desire to return closer to
the celebratory day to shop.
This approach will work equally well for other special days like Mothers Day,
Fathers Day, Easter, End of Financial Year, Christmas or Boxing Day. In fact,
with the number of different ethnic and cultural communities living in Australia
this technique could be applied specifically to a geographical area with a high
proportion of people from one ethnic group. Shops in that particular area could
advertise a particular festival or event on their
plastic bags to generate interest and
get consumers into the stores in that area.
The use of plastic bags for advertising is really only limited by the
imagination. Even on-line stores still use this type of packaging for the actual
product before it is packaged for posting, and again, putting the details of the
store and any specials or bargains is a great way to get the message out there.
